Soldiers and police officers have been deployed to Zimbabwe’s border post with Mozambique and Zambia to guard against illegal immigrants sneaking into the country without following Covid-19 regulations.

This was revaled during a recent provincial heads Covid-19 taskforce meeting to prepare for the impending third wave of the corona virus pandemic and evaluate mitigation measures.

Speaking during the meeting, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Senator, Monica Mavhunga also called on the local populace to abide by Covid-19 protocols.

She also called security forces to exercise their duties with due diligence and apprehend all breaching the Covid-19 guidelines.

“The surge in Covid-19 cases in Mashonaland East province is most likely to affect us also. I therefore call on everyone to desist from frequent travelling especially into areas like these that have been declared as hotspots.

“I urge our security forces to do their best in making sure that the set regulations are followed and that they deal with illegal public transport operators, they are not at all observing the regulations,” she said.
