Zimbabwe Test cricket captain, Sean Williams came guns blazing at the senior players, who predominantly occupy middle order batting positions, for throwing away their wickets cheaply.

The captain was visibly not happy with the proceedings of the day as he could not hold his hoses at the post- match press conference.

Sean Williams also went a step further by naming some of the players whom he felt did not do too well.

“The middle order failed us in this series. Guys got in and guys got out and it was the difference between getting 450 and 400 which is what I would have liked on that wicket. I asked for discipline and I asked for good decisions and that didn’t happen.

“It is soft wickets which keep on falling and I am going to bring out names Regis (Chakabva) played a terrible shot and Raza (Sikandar Raza) was another one. A player of that calibre to run down the wicket and throw his wicket away at 40 is not acceptable. It is not good enough in my standards and in that changing room now that is not what we want.

“We want big scores, big first innings totals to be able to bowl once. Brendan (Taylor) and myself really need to start following through,” he said.

Williams also urged the young guys to relax, enjoy the game and not to pile too much pressure on themselves as they are trying their level best.

He said, ” The young guys are trying very hard and I think sometimes trying too hard could be a problem instead of relaxing into the moment and enjoying it and keep on going forward. I am fully supporting them and the senior players, we have to step up,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe innings ended at 358. Craig Ervine scored 84, Kevin Kasuza (63), while Prince Masvaure scored 55.

Donald Tiripano anchored well by scoring an unbeaten 44 and he also claimed the only wicket so far in the Sri Lanka innings.

Lasith Embuldeniya claimed 5-114 for Sri Lanka.

On the crease for Sri Lanka when play resumes will be Dimuth Kurunaratne and Kusal Mendis. Sri Lanka are on 42/1.
