President Emmerson Mnangwagwa, Tuesday, urged all citizens to honour the statue of the late liberation heroine, Mbuya Nehanda, describing it as a symbol of unity to the present and future generations.

Mnangagwa said this during the monuments’ official unveiling at the intersection of Samora Machel and Julius Nyerere Way in the Central Business District (CBD) in Harare.

“The monument equally stands as a symbol of unity, identity and inspiration to present and future generations. I therefore appeal to all Zimbabweans to respect this monument.

“A people without knowledge of their past are like trees without roots, we are proud as Zimbabweans,” he said.

The unveiling simultaneously took place at a time when the African continent and the rest of the world collectively commemorated the 2021 Africa Day.

This year’s Africa Day was celebrated under theme “The Arts, culture and heritage: Levers for building the Africa we want”
