Bafana Bafana legend, Lucas Radebe is confident Zimbabwe senior national team, Warriors might win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament set for Cameroon come January 2022.

The former Leeds United player said this during the 2021 AFCON draw and match schedule release that was held live in Yaounde, Cameroon on Tuesday evening.

The 52-year-old had been asked to name the team he thought would be crowned the 2021 AFCON champions in Cameroon.

He surprisingly picked Zimbabwe ahead of the hosts Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and the defending champions Algeria.

“I go for Zimbabwe, they are one of the most promising teams. They have shown it by qualifying and it’s not by luck but good performance,” Radebe said.

Radebe was one of the guests during the 24-team draw for the biennial tournament.

Also present at the draw were Africa’s ex-footballers and legends including, El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, Rabah Madjer and Asamaoh Gyan.

Furthermore, Bafana Bafana legend remained backing the Warriors to be the African champions though it was suggested to him that the Super Eagles of Nigeria where the tournament’s favourites.

“Nigeria, maybe, but I would honestly go for Zimbabwe,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs player.

Zimbabwe were pooled in Group B with Senegal, Guinea and Malawi.

The dates for the game are as follows:

Senegal vs #Zimbabwe 10 January | 3PM

Malawi vs #Zimbabwe 14 January | 6PM

#Zimbabwe vs Guinea 18 January | 6PM

Meanwhile, this time around the draw looks pretty much fair to several Warriors supporters.

This comes after the Warriors faced a lot of pressure in the previous AFCON tournament when they were drafted in the same group with the hosts, Egypt, before playing the competition’s opener.
