POLICE has blocked main opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change rally slated for Thursday March 24 citing they do not have enough manpower to cover the event.

The rally ahead of the March 26 by-elections was going to be addressed by CCC secretary general Charlton Hwende, vice chairman Job Sikhala deputy leaders Tendai Biti and Lynette Karenyi-Kore.

Before this ban police has also barred CCC rallies in Gokwe, Marondera, Binga and Masvingo where the courts have had to intervene.

In a letter addressed to CCC police said police officers had already been deployed to polling stations and as such there was no manpower for their rally.

The letter reads: “I acknowledge the receipt of your notification letter dated 21 March 2022 in respect of the above heading  whereby you intend to hold a public political gathering  at Olympic stadium, Epworth, Harare on the 24th of march 2022 from 1100 hours to 1600hours. However, your meeting has not been sanctioned for security reasons.

“We have no adequate manpower to cover the meeting. Our manpower has already been deployed to various polling stations in preparation for the by-elections slated for Saturday 26 March 2022. I thank you in advance for your cooperation.”

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere however slammed the ban claiming the ruling party, ZANU PF was abusing state institutions.
