The Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) has Doctor Micheal Mandaza of Pacific 24 hour hospital for conducting fake medical tests and money laundering.

In a statement ZACC spokesperson, John Makamure said Mandaza (43) was arrested for producing falsified medical test reports at the hospital and money laundering.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Dr Michael Mandaza who operates Pacific 24 Hour Hospital at Kamunhu Shopping Centre in Mabvuku for defrauding patients by conducting fake medical tests at his hospital.

“It is alleged that Dr Mandaza conducted fake laboratory tests to patients at his hospital, charging them US$60 per test when in fact, he does not own any laboratory and instead, was generating fake laboratory reports,” said Makamure.

ZACC investigators retrieved a date stamp and medical reports handed out to patients.

“Investigators from ZACC discovered a date stamp for the alleged fake laboratory, medical records of patients subjected to the fake tests, laptops and other digital devices used to generate the fake laboratory reports at the hospital,” he said.

The team conducted further searches at the doctors place of residence in Harare’s Zimre Park suburb and confiscated USD $ 15 000 and R2000.

Mandaza is currently in police custody awaiting his court appearance while further investigations are underway.

The issuing of fake medical statements and reports has become rampant in the country, with some hospitals, clinics and laboratories reportedly issuing fake COVID – 19 certificates to the public.
