Opposition politics as dark as ruling party politics

Yesterday was meant to be a normal day during this festive season yet the MDC chose to record a shameful event in the history of the country’s politics. The scheduled Extra Ordinary Congress was marred with violence as some contestants fled the venue to wild hecklings and even violent slaps which were totally uncalled for.

The funny thing in all this is that people do not seem to learn how not to follow the violent, condescending and intolerant system that has already been set in the country. What is sad and at the least shameful is that people have been obsessed with the expectation of power at the expense of their moral sanity.

Douglas Mwonzora, Thokozani Khupe, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri for a fact know that their MDC is very irrelevant to the cause of the people and that their actions have been retrogressive to democracy. This is proven by the recalling of MPs and Councillors in different towns and cities. Political relevance is a stubborn reality, it is never imposed but achieved. The beam in the eye”And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:3-5 KJVThese are the words of Jesus Christ himself.

Taken to context, how is one going to fight against the current violence when he/she is violent also? The video that has been circulating on social media of Thokozani Khupe being slapped is totally insane. It proves that our political school of thought is still stuck in the stone age. To think that someone was slapping Thoko to protect a total waste of a politician is appalling. This is not the first time this violence has been witnessed. At Morgan Tsvangirai’s funeral something like this happened again when Khupe was barred from entering the deceased’s yard. It is now time for truth sessions for the opposition to seek healing, repent off these violent tendencies and move towards a sane future.

If an opposing figure is treated in such a way without power, what will then happen is by a big miracle such an entity assumes national and state leadership?

Chaos!!!Not time for sympathy”

All of a sudden some known MDC Alliance enthusiasts now sympathise with Khupe… Could it be that they sympathise with the weak? My advice would be to leave the dead to bury their own dead!”This was media guru Alexander Rusero on Twitter. There is no way any progressive or peace loving Zimbabwean will not agree with these sentiments. Whenever one betrays the masses and is arrogant on their stance then fate finally catches up with them, it could and would only be wise to fold arms and witness the arrogance fall.

The same people spat on are the same expected to sympathise. No amount of emotional manipulation can ease the current tension in the country. One thing remains true, however, Alliance leaders and members cannot be expected to sympathise with Dr Thokozani Khupe. It will be interesting to see what her next political move would be. The first guess is obviously her usual playground, the courts of law. She might just get yet another fluffy Teddy bear from there, who knows.

I surely made the CORRECT decision. There was NO way I was going to continue to be part and parcel of this charade. It’s certainly beyond my personal dignity.” Obert Gutu said. The former comrade of the violent crew said that he would never had wanted to be associated with mediocrity as showcased yesterday. It was as if he was mocking them but who in their normal senses would celebrate such a sham victory. How will Mwonzora, the new leader, unite the party? A journey that begins with no personal dignity will end with no dignity at all. Maybe someone will prove us wrong. Myriads of Twitter and Instagram users are obviously waiting for daddy’s little girl to post a congratulatory message to her dad who always “outsmarts” people.

The lesson in this whole thing is that stealing a name and acting against the will of the people will only lead to shame. As Alex Rusero put it, none of these leaders who betrayed the people deserve any sympathy. What went around is surely coming back around. As a nation though, Zimbabweans need and deserve healing. The nation is filled with hurt people who thriving on hate. Until the politicians sort that out, the scenes from yesterday are going to remain like that.
