COVID-19 cases in Norton have risen to 24 with the numbers expected to rise as it has emerged that more positive results have come.

A weekly update by the Norton Town Council dated 27 July confirmed the rise to 24.

The update says, “As of the 27th of July, Zimbabwe has a total cumulative 2704 confirmed covid-19 cases, with Mashonaland west having a total 86 cases.

“Norton had its 1st case of covid-19 on the 23rd of May. The first 3 cases were imported cases and these are people who came through quarantine centers. Local transmission cases started to be recorded from the 14th of July. These have no apparent links with anyone with a history of travel. The total number of cases currently stands at 24. Our local rapid response team has been following up rumours and reports of suspected and confirmed cases as received from the community.

“Cases have been reported from the community of border jumpers. Some have been successfully followed up but some evade the rapid response team with no trace of where these people are.”

This publication has also received news of a death in Norton. The said death is of a wife of a prominent businessman whose results came after her demise as positive.

Other confirmed cases also were recorded although they had to go to the Ministry for verification.

Meanwhile, the two major supermarkets in Norton, TM Pick ‘n’ Pay and OK, have both been shut down after they had staffers who tested positive for Corona Virus.
