President Emmerson Mnangagwa will Tuesday unveil the statue of Mbuya Nehanda in Harare.

This was confirmed by Information Ministry Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana on Twitter.

“Mbuya Nehanda’s statue is ready to go up onto the Centre of the City and right at the eye of the footbridge. This is going to be a City Centre Star Attraction, something to draw both international and domestic tourists and yet provide a functional way to cross busy roads,” he wrote.

The statue could have been erected earlier on but progress was stalled when Mnangangwa rejected the first piece that did not resemble the heroine.

The statue and footbridge is located at the intersection of Julius Nyerere and Samora Machel Avenue in the CBD.
