A Rushinga woman Petronella Mazivei (32) last Thursday committed suicide meters away from her homestead after she was left unattended.

The deceased from Nombo Village under Chief Rusambo had a mental illness and was left home alone by her husband Kelvin Maruza (36)  who had gone to fetch firewood.

The incident was confirmed by Mashonaland Central acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo who appealed to members of the public with mentally challenged relatives to constantly monitor them to avoid loss of life and even harm to others.

“Kelvin Maruza left his home at around 1600 hours leaving behind his mentally challenged wife Petronella Mazivei home alone as he headed to a nearby forest to fetch for firewood.

“At around 1700 hours, Kelvin returned but could not locate his wife and he began searching for her.

“He then found her 700 meters away from their homestead hanging from a tree branch and already dead,” he said.
