Skirmishes broke out today (Saturday) in St Mary, Chitungwiza between anti riot police and MDC youths who had camped at Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala’s residence.
As early as 7am MDC youths camped at Sikhala’s homestead where they waiting for Zanu PF youths who had earlier on promised to protest there.
As the charged MDC supporters were chanting party songs, anti riot police arrived and ordered the MDC supporters to disperse.
The group refused to take orders from the police who went onto throw teargas and attack them.
Retaliation from the youths forced the armed police to flee and call for backup.
Over 5 police vehicles with water canisters camped at Huruyadzo shopping centre forcing shops to close.
A number of MDC youths have been detained in connection with the skirmishes.
The arrested include MDC youth spokesperson, Stephen Chuma, Nyasha Mutsindikwa, Elton Marimbe, Tendayi Timuri, Dambudzo Mhike, John Malebaleng, Brian Mushakwa, Taurai Nyamanhindi, Jabulani Chitindiara, Tanyaradzwa Zawaira, Christopher Muretu and Terrence Manjengwa.
