Masvingo – Masvingo province has recorded a rise in Covid-19 cases after the pandemic hit Masvingo Teachers College.

82 positive cases were recorded on the 27th of November in Masvingo.

According to statistics provided by the Masvingo Covid-19 Taskforce Chairperson Rodgers Irimayi, 81 of the positive cases were recorded at Masvingo Teacher’s College.

In an interview with Irimayi said testing is still ongoing and those who had tested positive were asymptomatic.

“The cumulative figure of students at Masvingo Teachers College who tested by end of day on Monday. Tests are still going on at the institution and these figures may continue rising. Learning is being encouraged to continue virtually to curtail further spreading of the virus. Most of the positive case are asymptomatic. Those who tested positive are being isolated ta college,” he said.

One resident, Mable Zinanga said:“The positive cases are rising every day and things are now getting out of hand and the worst case is that some of the students who tested positive at the college stay in residential areas and commute to college every day and this means the virus could be in homes and people are not coming forward for testing.  This shows that Covid-19 restrictions are no longer being followed.”

Residents in Masvingo have called for people to adhere to the World Health Organisation guidelines as this could save lives as well.
