Masvingo Continuous water shortages in the City of Masvingo, has made arrangements with non-councilschools to help in the supply of water.

This was said by the City Mayor Collen Maboke at a press briefing that was held at the Council yesterday.

Different schools have been approached and are willing to work with the council.

“We have also liaised with the non Council schools to assist our residents with water because we know some of the schools have boreholes. So we have liaised with Mucheke High school and they agreed to allow residents to fetch water from 9am to 11am. Christian High School also agreed to assist the residents from 9am to 11am and the same applies with Runyararo Primary School also agreed to the same time every day.

“Don Bosco primary school also agreed to assist with water from 6 to 8am whereas Helen MacGhie Primary School and Ndarama High promised they will advise us later with time in which our residents can access water,” said Maboke.

The arrangement is hoped to lessen the situation of water shortages as the city does not have adequate water supply for everyone and the boreholes are fewer as compared to the increasing population.

“The water supply in our City is continuously deteriorating each day mainly as a result of intermittent power supply to Bushmead water works effecting treatment and pumping of water and also high water demand as a result of the increasing population and high temperatures,” he said.
