MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe might be spending one more night in jail after prison authorities claimed there are ‘technicalities around his bail’ blocking his release.

Haruzivishe was granted $20 000 bail Friday by the Harare High Court after he was incarcerated in February 2021.

As part of his bail conditions, he is required to report to the police twice a week and continue residing at his given address.

The pro-democracy activist was represented by Lovemore Madhuku.

Speaking at the Harare Remand Prison where MDC Alliance members had gathered to welcome him back, the opposition party’s deputy spokesperson Gift Ostallos Siziba said: “We are here in expection to have Makomborero Haruzivishe finally given his freedom from this filthy place in Harare Remand but we are now being informed by officers that there were technicalities around his bail.”

Haruzivishe is accused of unlawfully kidnapping and detaining Impala Car rental employees, alternatively participating in a gathering with intent to cause public violence and also has three other pending cases before the courts.
