A housemaid from Masvingo who stole her employer’s mobile phone and transferred $2 225RTGs has been ordered to perform 210 hours of community service at a local school in Masvingo.
Emmaculate Mutsambwa 30 of Mutsambwa village under chief Nhema in Zaka was yesterday convicted of theft when she appeared before Masvingo magistrate, Mbonisi Ndlovu.
Prosecutor Innocent Mbambo told the court that on 19th of December 2020 the accused was ordered by her employer Vester Mhere to load some bedsheets into her car and as she was packing she stole an Itel cellphone which was in the car and hid it.
Mutsambwa knew Mhere’s ecocash security pin and transferred money from the complainant’s phone amounting to $2 225 into different ecocash numbers.
The court was told that on the 27th of December the complainant failed to locate her Itel phone leading to the discovery of the offence and reported the matter to the police.
Investigations were done through a service provider who provided an ecocash statement showing ecocash transactions made by the convicted leading to her arrest.
Mutsambwa was however sentenced to 9 months imprisonment which was wholly suspended on condition that she compensates her employer and performs 210 hours of community service.
