The 29th session of the Junior Parliament which was scheduled for the 19th of June 19 in Harare, has been postponed, the Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) has said.

The moves comes after government on Saturday introduced stricter lockdown restrictions banning all gatherings in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19 virus.

In a statement, ZYC said the Junior Parliament has been postponed until further notice.

“The Zimbabwe Youth Council (ZYC) notifies its clients, stakeholders and the general public that pursuant to the statement by the Honourable Vice President of Zimbabwe General Dr. Constantino Chiwenga who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, setting out additional measures to contain a renewed surge in Covid-19 infection rates, the official opening of the 29th Junior Parliament session scheduled for 19 June 2021 has been postponed until further notice.”

The new lockdown measures have also affected activities in other sectors.

OnMonday the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) called off all cricket activities including the on going international match that was taking place between Zimbabwe A and South Africa A.

The call will also see football which had been on halt for more than one year being placed on hold again after it had recently returned at the Chibuku Super Cup tournament with the league campaign expected in July.
