Land Barons Victims Betrayed By Authorities

A recent survey by Accountibility Labs Zimbabwe , CivicActs in partnership with NAYO Zimbabwe conducted in Chitungwiza has revealed that victims of illegally acquired residential land feel let down by authorities.

According to the survey over 90% of end buyers of land feel betrayed by authorities having reported their case.

“Most respondents, 94% did not feel that the authorities had taken enough action against residential land corruption. Only 32% received a response to their complaints”.

The report which looks at how residents interact with land barons – individuals or corporate entities that are involved in corrupt land dealings that leave the end-buyer in possession of illegal land also concluded that most residents fell victim to land barrons unknowingly.

“Close to 69% of victims of residential land corruption are concerned about being defrauded by land barrons”.

Over the years Zimbabwean authorities have demolished illegal settlements . However of concern has been the lethargic approach to land barons.
