Bulawayo based health expert Doctor Solwayo Ngwenya has said citizens should not remain complacent and begin to take heed of Covid-19.

Ngwenya expressed his concern as he posted on his twitter account to warn the citizens how dangerous the Covid-19 virus has posed to be.

The Mpilo Hospital acting CEO believes the people’s self-complacency has resulted in the outbreak of a new deadly variant.

This follows after scientists in South Africa recently discovered a variant of concern B.1.1.529 named Omicron.

“Coronavirus: game changing mutations on Omicron. Gross human complacency has given the virus growth advantage.
“Its multiple mutations can only spell excessive danger; superb transmissibility, and deadlier/superior clinical performance, it’s time to stand up, and respect the virus,” he said.

However, according to World Health Organization (WHO) it is not yet clear whether Omicron is more transmissible as compared to other variants including the Delta variant.
