The MDC Youth Assembly has issued a stern warning against what they termed “state-sponsored violence” which took place at their party headquarters in the capital over the weekend.
This followed reports of intraparty political violence which took place at Harvest House over the weekend.
In a statement, the youth assembly made certain that they are not going to entertain the constant attack of their headquarters.
“As MDC Youth Assembly we would like to give a clear warning that being the last line of defence of the party we are not going to fold our hands while our leadership and party headquarters are under attack”, reads the statement.
In a statement in the position of this publication, the police are being accused of being part of the machination as they had removed their vehicle always stationed opposite their party headquarters.
“Conspicuous by their absence during the skirmishes was the police who always park their vehicle adjacent to our headquarters.
“As such we have every reason to believe that the attempted attack on our party had traces of state involvement written all over”, reads the statement.
The police have however acknowledged that they have received reports of violence which took place at Harvest House involving youths aligned to MDC former secretary-general Douglass Mwonzora and that of Party President Nelson Chamisa.
“We have received reports on intra-party political violence at Harvest House on Saturday. Youths aligned to different factions clashed and left some injured”, said Asst Police Commissioner Nyathi.
The MDC youth has also called for an investigation on Douglas Mwonzora on the same incident.
As MDC Youth Assembly, we would like to make it clear that we are not going to treat those who betray in our midst with kids’ gloves. In this regard, we demand that Mr. Mwonzora be investigated on these allegations.
