Hwange legend, Nyaro Mumba, got a treat as soccer fans, players and legends combined to get relief for the now blind former player.

Bustop TV spoke to football fan, Martin Changachirere, who is part of the organiers of the event.

Changachirere said they had been contemplating helping Nyaro Mumba for three years up.

“Its an idea we have toyed with for almost 3 years now looking at the plight of Nyaro Mumba once he became blind. Initial discussions involved among others Clifford Mparutsa, former Chronicle sports editor Lovemore Dube and Moses Chunga. The talk was reignited at Soccer Updates group leading to us puttibg in place a hamper. I raised the money with the assistance of close friends Stewart Murisa, David Maketo Sengu, Emmanuel Jalai, Junior Selemani and Solomon Chingono.”

The football fan said they engaged a prominent wholesale in their quest to help the legend.

Changachirere said, “We engaged Gain Wholesalers because of the lockdown where we got an excellent customer experience from a consultant called Guide. We were able to pay online and have the hamper delivered by Guide and Clemence Bonga in Victoria Falls. In the spirit of teamwork our Soccer Updates group pooled resources and so far have raised above 2000rtgs which we will send via Ecocash. Mpumelelo Dzowa chipped in with USD20 from his USA base.”

This was not the first time the team has done this as they have done similar initiatives for Francis Jeyman, George Shaya, AliBaba Dube, Peter “Captain Oxo” Nkomo.

Nyaro Mumba is a former Hwange Football Club forward and was one of the best talents of his era. About a decade ago Hwange former players played a testimonial match for Nyaro. The proceeds from the testimonial match went towards his upkeep.
