This year the world celebrates a quiet Easter with less hype and activities as is done any other year, the global pandemic has restricted a lot from taking place.

COVID 19 has led to a reduced this Easter to a less contact and travel holiday, so as to help curb the virus and stop a third wave that have been predicted by many.

Most churches have been forced to have online church services as a result of Covid 19 induced restrictions. People that spoke to this publication indicated that it is hard not to celebrate something that they are used to celebrating annually.

“It is hard not to celebrate such an occasion we have been celebrating since birth because of this pandemic, as much as it hurts we all want to live and see our children grow too as such we are forced to adhere to the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and the governments orders too of having a limited number in Churches.

“It would have been great to meet everyone and celebrate as one big family, but the situation is beyond our control we have to work with what’s there, joining Facebook, Zoom, Youtube and Whatsapp services and partaking in all the activities,” said one lady who identified herself as Samantha.

Some households started the Easter Friday with loud gospel music and sermons as a sign of honoring the occasion. The usual Easter egg hunts and other games are however limited.

Some churches are allowing people to come physically for the occasion and taking all the required precautionary measures such as sanitizing, temperature testing and space everyone apart.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police stated that they will ensure that all health and safety measures are complied to.

“The public must note that social gatherings which include weddings, churches and funerals are still limited to a maximum of 50 people, wearing of masks is still mandatory and the curfew order remains unchanged.

“The police will ensure that all visitors to the country comply with the safety and health measures pronounced by the President on 30 March 2021.

No movements from boarding schools by either parents or pupils will be allowed”.
