Masvingo – Chiredzi District remains a hotspot for Covid -19 cases as nine positive cases were recorded yesterday in Masvingo province after a series of days without positive cases in the province.

This information was revealed through the Masvingo Covid -19 update dated 25March 2021. Most of the Covid cases that have been recorded in the province are recorded in Chiredzi and this is due to the porous border posts linking the province with South Africa.

Border jumpers are using the entry points in the province as they want to avoid going under quarantine and getting tested. This has massively affected the fight against Covid -19 in the district.

In an interview with the Masvingo Covid -19 taskforce, Rogers Irimayi said they are working tirelessly to make sure the district records no positive cases.

“Chiredzi is continuing as a hotspot for the spread of Covid -19, and this is highly affecting the district, we had days when we recorded zero cases of the virus in the province and now the chain has been broken by the nine positive cases that were recorded yesterday. We will continue carrying out awareness campaigns against the spread of Covid -19 in Chiredzi; people still need to know that Covid -19 is still there so we should not relax.

“It is sad that people still do not take the Covid -19 pandemic seriously, people think Covid -19 is gone,” he said.

Masvingo province has a record of 2 378 cumulative positive cases, recovered 2 299, deaths 66 and active cases 13.

Country wide according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 36 778 cumulative positive cases have been recorded in the country, with 34 555 recovered cases, 705 active cases and 1 518 deaths.

29 new cases were recorded yesterday, with two deaths and 79 recoveries
