Municipality of Chinhoyi asks its residents to use water sparingly as they stabilize raw water pumping for the town.
In a note from the Public Relations Office they stated that they have recommissioned a second pump at the raw water station.
“We have just recommissioned the second pump at the raw water station, we expect improved water supply in some areas.
“We ask the residents to bare with us as we stabilize the raw water pumping, we urge residents to use water sparingly during this period” it read.
Chinhoyi Residents Association in response to what the Municipality said stated that the Town Clerk took them on a tour to Hunyani River so as to get an understanding on the situation.
“The Town Clerk took us on a tour to Hunyani River where we discovered that two of the three pumps are down, the situation is dire as they are working on rectifying the problem.
“When we got there, a pump ready for commissioning, we gave an ultimatum of 48hours to ensure that they pump water to the residents,” They said. “We were told that the council had received $4 Million that came from devolution that is meant for water and sewer reticulation and new pumps are being procured as the money was received recently.
“They went on to say that the council management and councilors are not operating at the same wavelength.
“It is worrying that the council management and councilors are not on the same wavelength in terms of understanding and working together, the guards (councillors) are sleeping on duty,” he said.
The residents of areas such as Cold Stream, Chikonohono, Gunhill, Ruvimbo, Rujeko amongst others have been without running water for almost three weeks now and sewer bursts have become common.
