CCC refutes Gokwe violence claims

by Bustop TV News

Opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has denied claims that its activists attacked ZANU PF supporters in Gokwe Nembudziya on Sunday.

According to state broadcaster ZBC News, ZANU PF supporters who had gone for a voter registration mobilization and awareness meeting in the area were allegedly assaulted and injured by CCC activists.

Pictures of a brutally injured woman clad in ZANU PF regalia went viral on social media with reports that she was assaulted by CCC members.

Contrary to reports,  CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said Zanu PF youths tried to violently gain entry into the venue and ended up in a violent clash with CCC security detail.

Mahere was commenting on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba Tweet accusing CCC’s organizing secretary Amos Chibaya of inciting violence.

“This is false and defamatory. Chibaya was in Chivi yesterday  hosting a rally for the multitude there who want change! It is a matter of regret that a whole “presidential spokesperson” would communicate lies.

“Zanu PF is running scared. We want elections not war!,”Mahere said.

Mahere added: “This is false. The violence was caused and committed by Zanu PF thugs who trespassed  a CCC rally.

“At least five of our security personnel were injured trying to keep the peace.

“ZRP dispersed Zanu PF members  because we had the legal right to be there,” Mahere said.

In August last year, a similar incident happened where journalists and CCC supporters were attacked by a mob of suspected Zanu PF youths in Gokwe Kabuyuni area.
