Bosso call-off AGM, elections with conform to gvt lock-down regulations

In a move aimed at adhering to government;s Level Four lock-down regulation, Bulawayo giants, Highlanders FC have called of their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Executive elections which were previously pencilled for today January 31 to February 7 2021.


In their statement, the Highlanders board indicated that the anticipated meeting has been postponed to a later date which will be made known to all Bosso faithfulls in observance of a letter they received from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), notifying the club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nhlanhla Dube that the meeting has been deferred.


“The club would like to state following as regards the Highlanders Football Club AGM and Executive Committee Members set for 31st January to 7th February 2021 respectively.


“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic rules and regulations, the negative response received from the police, relevant sporting authorities and broad consultation on the matter, the force circumstances in which the club finds itself necessitates that we postpone both the AGM and elections, until such a time that the relevant authorities sanction the activities, the pandemic is beyond anyone’s control” read the statement”.


The club’s statement also revealed that the existing Executive Committe will carry on with their duties until the club holds its next elections.
“Out of necessity and practical considerations, the current Executive Committee will continue until the next elections are held,” indicated statement.


Last week, HIghlanders lea had indicated that they were constitutionally obliged to hold their AGM. They usually hold the meeting in the last Sunday of January every year.


In the elections that were scheduled for 7 February, Bosso members where set to elect the club’s chairman, secretary general and the committee member.
Reigning club chairman, Kenneth Mhlophe, who is seeking a second term in the office, is set to lock horns with Johnfat Sibanda.
In the secretary general office, incumbent Israel Moyo is set to face-off Morgan Dube, who has shown interest to become the next Highlanders secretary general.

Bheka Sibanda and Mgcini Mafu are in contention for the committee members posts.
