A gloomy atmosphere has engulfed residents in Unit C Seke Chitungwiza after a-12-year old girl yesterday committed suicide at her parents’ place over unpleasant grade 7 results.
The incident which occurred around 6pm last night has left a lot of residents’ tongue-tied as they could not come to terms with the encounter.
Close sources who spoke to this publication indicated that the minor might have killed herself over poorly performed grade 7 results.
This year’s grade 7 results were released last Friday and distributed to schools during the weekend and pupils started accessing them from schools yesterday whilst some could see them online.
According to Zimsec the national pass rate dropped by five percent compared to last year, with only indigenous languages namely Shona and Ndebele performing well.
The body of the deceased whose identity could not be revealed until her next of kin were formally notified spend a couple of hours at her parents’ place in Unit C near Tamuka Primary school before police arrived at the scene.
Reports from the neighborhood suggest that the girl collected her grade 7 results yesterday and failed to come to terms with the outcome.
One of the local residents who only identified herself as Mai Charity expressed shock and advised parents not to pressurize their children when it comes to academic performance.
“Zvinoshamisa kuona mwana mudiki achizviuraya especcilay over maresults. I think isu sevabereki hatifaniri kupa vana pressure kuti vagone muchikoro nekuti zvipo zvinosiyana,” she said.
The incident followed a similar suicidal occurrence where a Churchill Boys High ordinary level student committed suicide by jumping from a building over reports of exam uncertainties.
